Sometimes Pressing Pause Is Healing

One of the greatest lessons I've learned on this healing journey is that healing isn't always about moving constantly. Sometimes it's about knowing when to stop. I recently had to pause my 365 Days of Healing series because of a critical family emergency. Out of respect for my loved ones and their privacy, I won't be sharing the details. I simply ask for your prayers and understanding during this time. At first, I wanted to push through. I wanted to keep creating, encouraging, and showing up every day. But I realized something important: I cannot pour into others when my own mind, heart, and body need rest. For many of us, especially those who have lived in survival mode, we believe stopping means failing. We feel guilty for resting. We think we have to keep going no matter what. But that's not what healing is about. Healing teaches us to listen to our bodies, honor our emotions, and trust God enough to step away when life demands our attention elsewhere. This pa...

Reduce Stress, Restore Balance, Rebuild Capacity

Stress doesn’t mean weakness. It means your nervous system is overwhelmed.

When you begin to regulate the system, the mind and emotions often begin to settle too.

Ways to regulate stress and support nervous system balance:

• Deep breathing and long exhales
• Body scans and muscle relaxation
• Gentle movement and stretching
• Prayer, meditation, and quiet time
• Nature, fresh air, and sunlight
• Journaling and creative expression
• Humming, singing, or cold water for vagus nerve support
• Rest, hydration, and nourishing meals
• Safe connection and healthy boundaries
• Slowing down and reducing overstimulation

Healing does not always begin with doing more. Sometimes it begins with slowing down enough for the body to finally feel safe.

A dysregulated nervous system can show up as tiredness, irritability, sensitivity, anxiety, or constantly feeling “on edge.”

But with the right tools, balance can return.

When your nervous system feels safe, your body can finally relax, your thoughts become clearer, and your emotions soften.

Regulating your nervous system is not a luxury—it is essential for healing, clarity, and everyday functioning.

Your body is not working against you. It may simply be overwhelmed, overextended, or stuck in survival mode.

Healing begins when you create space for rest, safety, slowness, and support.

Getting unstuck in survival mode does not happen all at once.

It happens slowly, through safety, consistency, and small moments of rest.

Survival mode can make you feel anxious, numb, overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected, or constantly “on.”

Your body may be carrying stress for so long that it no longer remembers what calm feels like. But healing is possible.

The nervous system can learn safety again.

Remember:

You can begin to come out of survival mode through practices like deep breathing, body scans, gentle movement, prayer, quiet time, journaling, nature, and safe connection.

You do not have to force yourself into healing.

You can give yourself permission to slow down, soften, and rebuild your capacity one day at a time. One moment at a time.

 Scriptures:

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. — Matthew 11:28

Be still, and know that I am God.— Psalm 46:10

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. — 1 Peter 5:7

Affirmations:

• My body is safe, and my nervous system is learning peace.
• I release stress and welcome calm.
• I do not have to stay stuck in survival mode.
• God is helping me slow down, breathe, and heal.
• I am rebuilding my strength, capacity, and peace one day at a time.
• My mind can rest. My body can soften. My soul can breathe.
• I deserve rest, safety, and support.
