Truth, Distraction, and Returning to God
It feels like I’m working a full-time job just trying to escape distractions.
And the truth is, there are so many of them.
Everywhere you turn, something is competing for your attention — noise, opinions, entertainment, fear, confusion, comparison, pressure, and even spiritual distractions that look harmless on the surface. It can feel exhausting trying to stay focused, stay grounded, and stay connected to what God is revealing in this season.
But I don’t believe all of this distraction is random.
I believe much of it is by design.
Because people are waking up. People are realizing the truth. People are beginning to see beyond what they were taught, beyond what they were told to accept, and beyond the systems and patterns that kept them bound. And once the truth fully clicks, there will be a major shift in dynamics.
When truth enters a place that has been covered by lies, it changes everything.
Truth is like light in darkness. It exposes what was hidden. It reveals what was disguised. It brings clarity where there was confusion. And once light comes in, darkness cannot remain the same.
For many of us, it feels like we were tricked. We were taught to believe lies about ourselves, about God, about our worth, about our purpose, about success, about love, about identity, and about what we were truly created to do.
Some people were conditioned to survive instead of live.
Some were taught to shrink instead of grow.
Some were convinced they were powerless when God had already placed purpose inside of them.
Some were distracted for so long that they forgot who they were.
But I believe truth has a way of finding us.
And when it does, it begins to awaken what was buried.
In my spirit, I keep thinking about how destinies can be delayed, hidden, manipulated, or even “swapped” through deception, trauma, fear, false teaching, unhealthy relationships, and spiritual confusion. Not because God lost control, but because people can be led away from what God intended when they are not rooted in Him.
The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun. What has been will be again. What has been done will be done again. The same patterns may show up in different forms, but the spirit behind them is not new.
Deception is not new.
Distraction is not new.
Spiritual warfare is not new.
People being led away from truth is not new.
But neither is God’s power to restore, redeem, and reveal.
One thing I know for sure: God is above all things, all people, all systems, all places, and all powers.
No lie is greater than His truth.
No darkness is stronger than His light.
No plan of man can overpower the will of God.
No season of confusion can cancel what God has spoken.
His Word does not return to Him void. Everything He said will be fulfilled. What He has promised, He is able to perform. What He has spoken, He is faithful to complete.
That is why this is not the season to be spiritually lazy.
This is not the season to let everyone else tell you who God is while you never seek Him for yourself. It is not someone else’s responsibility to build your relationship with the Father for you.
People can encourage you.
People can teach you.
People can pray with you.
People can share wisdom.
But no one can have your relationship with God for you.
You have to seek Him for yourself.
You have to pray for yourself.
You have to open the Word for yourself.
You have to ask for discernment for yourself.
You have to return to Him with your own heart.
The beautiful thing I’ve learned is this: there is nothing you have done, and nothing you will do, that cannot be brought before God in repentance.
That does not mean we take His grace lightly. It means we understand the depth of His mercy. God is not waiting for us to be perfect before we come to Him. He is calling us to return.
Return to Him, and He will return to you.
He first loved us. Before we knew how to love Him, He loved us. Before we understood grace, He made a way. Before we could save ourselves, He gave His only Son so that we may be saved.
That kind of love is not shallow.
That kind of love is not weak.
That kind of love is not temporary.
It is holy, powerful, patient, correcting, restoring, and life-changing.
His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. There will be things we do not understand in the moment. There will be seasons that feel confusing, painful, or unfair. There will be times when what God is doing does not make sense to our natural mind.
But that is why we need discernment.
We have to learn the difference between a distraction and an assignment.
The difference between a delay and divine protection.
The difference between an attack and a lesson.
The difference between isolation and consecration.
The difference between being stuck and being prepared.
Every season has a purpose, but if we are too distracted, we can miss what the season is trying to teach us.
Some seasons come to awaken us.
Some come to correct us.
Some come to strengthen us.
Some come to separate us.
Some come to prepare us.
Some come to reveal what has been hidden.
This is why we must be vigilant.
Being vigilant does not mean living in fear. It means staying spiritually awake. It means paying attention. It means guarding your heart, your mind, your peace, your purpose, and your relationship with God.
It means asking:
What is God showing me in this season?
What distractions are pulling me away from Him?
What truth have I been avoiding?
What lies have I believed about myself?
What is God calling me to surrender?
What is He trying to awaken in me?
The world is loud, but God is still speaking.
The distractions are many, but His voice is still present.
The lies may have been strong, but truth is stronger.
And when the truth of God begins to settle in your heart, you cannot remain the same. You begin to see differently. You begin to choose differently. You begin to move differently. You begin to recognize that what was meant to bury you may have actually been used to awaken you.
So in this season, be vigilant.
Stay close to God.
Stay in prayer.
Stay in the Word.
Stay humble.
Stay aware.
Stay willing to grow.
Stay open to correction.
Stay rooted in truth.
Do not let distraction rob you of revelation.
Do not let confusion keep you from clarity.
Do not let the lies of the past convince you that God is not still working.
He is above it all.
And when His truth comes forth, everything that was hidden in darkness must answer to the light.
Return to Him. Seek Him for yourself. Let Him reveal the truth. Let Him restore what was broken. Let Him awaken what was buried. Let Him lead you into the season you were created for.
