Holding It In Makes You Sick: The Hidden Cost

Many of us grow up learning to “be strong,” “push through,” or “keep it together.” But what we rarely talk about is the weight that comes with carrying emotions we never release. Anger. Bitterness. Jealousy. Resentment. Unforgiveness. Hidden hurt. Silent disappointment. These emotions don’t stay neatly tucked away in the heart. The body feels them. The mind reacts to them. And the soul holds them like unspoken stories. The Body Keeps the Score When we bottle up hard emotions, the body shifts into a subtle form of stress response. Having a Positive Attitude while living with Chronic Illness

Easier said than Done!! Not an easy thing to do, especially when dealing with our emotions. Any negative feeling that causes us to become tense or stressed out, sad, depressed, etc., can affect our illness. Have you ever been uncomfortable in your own body? Many chronic illness warriors don't even remember what it feels like to be pain free. This is why it is imperative to see the positive in all things. It may require you updating your circle to one more suitable to the person you have become, to only include those that enhance your life or give back to you so you are not being drained. Developing a closer relationship with the Most High has helped me tremendously to recover in every aspect, that is my source. Something else to consider when attempting to see the good in life is music, inspirational music specifically is what helped me to stay optimistic. Music can be very therapeutic, soothing, relaxing, all depending on your choice of music. On inclement weather days, self care, and lots of self love should be the objective, I don't know about you but on bad weather days my pain intensified and was unbearable. Spending time doing things that made me feel good helped, like watching my favorite movie, getting a massage, taking a long hot shower with my favorite scented soap, down to  taking the time to change the way I see things, and processing situations from the past as learning experiences. Helping others also rewards you with a great feelings of happiness and accomplishment, that may be something that will work for you. Overall, having an optimistic mindset is a beneficial factor on your journey to wellness. Do what works for you!!
