Breathing Is Powerful

  I’ve been learning a few things on my journey to holistic wellness, and breathing is one of them. Who knew the power of every breath? For a long time, I didn’t realize how often I was holding my breath. While being stuck in survival mode, my body stayed tense, guarded, and overwhelmed. I was trying to make it through, but holding my breath only increased my need to breathe. Recently, like a little over a year ago I began learning how to breathe intentionally. I practiced different breathing exercises and discovered a few that worked best for me. What seemed simple became one of the most powerful tools in my healing process. When I say I was stuck in survival mode, I mean my nervous system was compromised. My body was constantly responding as if danger was near. Initially I was incapacitated mentally and physically limited, so many labels were thrown at me that I started to believe it was over for me. But this journey has taught me differently. Rediscovering Me Again


Sometimes on this healing journey, I catch myself and laugh…
because I realize I’m getting to know me again.

The other day I found myself briefly crushing on someone,
being playful, kind of bold even, not shy at all…
and I thought to myself,  wait a minute… I remember her.

Survival mode, stress, anxiety, and life
can make you forget parts of who you are or used to be.

You become quiet when you used to be expressive.
You become guarded when you used to be free.
You become tired when you used to be full of life.

But healing has a way of bringing pieces of you back.

What made me laugh was how fast my mind reset
when I realized he was married…

                                            I literally swiped my hand across my head like                                              Never mind, remove that thought. 😄

And in that moment I realized…

Growth isn’t only about changing.
Sometimes it’s about
remembering who you were
before life weighed on you.

Sometimes growth looks like therapy.
Sometimes it looks like prayer.
Sometimes it looks like breathing and resting.
And sometimes…
it looks like laughing at yourself
because you realize you’re finally free enough
to feel again.
 

My mind is clearer.
My heart is lighter.
My spirit is more aware.

God didn’t just bring me out of anxiety, depression, and fear…
He’s restoring my personality, my joy, my confidence, and my peace.

Thank you God for letting me meet myself again. 🙏
