Sometimes Pressing Pause Is Healing

One of the greatest lessons I've learned on this healing journey is that healing isn't always about moving constantly. Sometimes it's about knowing when to stop. I recently had to pause my 365 Days of Healing series because of a critical family emergency. Out of respect for my loved ones and their privacy, I won't be sharing the details. I simply ask for your prayers and understanding during this time. At first, I wanted to push through. I wanted to keep creating, encouraging, and showing up every day. But I realized something important: I cannot pour into others when my own mind, heart, and body need rest. For many of us, especially those who have lived in survival mode, we believe stopping means failing. We feel guilty for resting. We think we have to keep going no matter what. But that's not what healing is about. Healing teaches us to listen to our bodies, honor our emotions, and trust God enough to step away when life demands our attention elsewhere. This pa...

Understanding Emotional Overload

Have you ever found yourself suddenly silent, tired, or “checked out” after being around someone expressing intense anger or frustration?
You’re not overreacting — your body is responding.

Being around a high level of anger can feel like an attack on your body, even when it’s not directed at you. Your nervous system recognizes that intensity and immediately shifts into protection mode.
That “shutdown” feeling isn’t weakness — it’s your body saying,

“This is too much right now. I need safety.”

 What’s Happening Inside You

When your system senses danger — even emotional or energetic — it triggers the freeze or shutdown response.
Your heart rate may slow down, your breathing becomes shallow, and you might feel disconnected or foggy.
This is the body’s natural attempt to keep you safe when it doesn’t know how to fight or flee.

The good news? You can gently guide yourself back into calm.

 Gentle Ways to Reground Yourself

1. Grounding Touch
Place your hand over your heart or chest and take a slow, steady breath.
Let your body feel the warmth of your touch. Whisper to yourself:

“I am safe right now.”

2. Shake It Off
Move your arms, hands, and legs — even a gentle stretch helps.
This discharges the leftover energy your body absorbed.

3. Safe Sound
Once the environment feels calmer, listen to soothing music, a prayer, or nature sounds.
Let peaceful frequencies remind your body it can rest again.

4. Express It
Journal or record a quick voice note about what happened.
You’re not dwelling — you’re releasing what got stuck.

 In Times of Uncertainty

The world can feel overwhelming right now.
People are frustrated, systems are strained, and emotions are running high.
But we are not powerless — we can choose calm in the chaos.

Peace doesn’t mean the world stops shaking.
It means you’ve learned to stay steady within the shaking.
Through faith, breath, and awareness, you can return to safety — one moment at a time.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

 Closing Reflection

If you’ve felt shut down or emotionally drained after being around tension, don’t shame yourself.
Your body’s wisdom is sacred.
Treat it gently.
Pray. Breathe. Reground.
And remember — you are not alone.
